The ZIBI-International Summer School on Pathogen-Host-Interplay will take place from
June 9th to June 23rd 2012
.

The ZIBI Summer School mainly addresses international and German postgraduate students of biosciences or medicine who are in their final stage of their Master studies. It offers a forum for excellent students who consider infection biology and immunology as a research area for their PhD work and therefore seek a more comprehensive understanding of this interdisciplinary research field. PhD students who started with their work and want to obtain additional training to complement their specific research project in infection biology or immunology can also participate. As a yearly changing topic, we will offer an enclosed Scientific Symposium on "Global Challenges of Chronic Tropical Infections". This symposium is meant to bring together young scientist (MSc students, PhD students and postdocs) from different countries with the local ZIBI faculty and students and international guest speakers.

The ZIBI Summer School is supported by the DAAD with scholarships for 16 students. A scholarship covers the travel to Berlin, accomodation and the participation of the complete Summer School. Information for grant application can be found here: Registration.

In 2012, the ZIBI Summer School will be split up in three parts. First we offer a one week lecture course which will consist of lectures by our local scientists. General topics of infection biology and immunology will be introduced with this lecture series. This first week will also include some "special topics" and demonstrations. The demonstrations will be reserved to the ZIBI scholars. For information about the 2012 scientific program click here: [ Preliminary Program of 2012 ]. For the one-week lecture course alone we don't have any scholarships but you can register to participate on own financing.

The second part of the Summer School is a Scientific Symposium which will take place in the second week. The symposium is part of the Summer School but will also be open for further participants who have to register.

The ZIBI Summer School will finish with practical courses (third part of the Summer School) which are offered exclusively for the 16 scholars. They will have the possibility to choose one of the courses offered by the local research groups thus being introduced to their research and to the institutes of the ZIBI. Details are also announced in the program.

Registration for the ZIBI scholars will be in the afternoon of June 9th, followed by a short introduction to the program and of the participants.

All other participants may register on arrival on Monday,  June 11th.
